Mommy Makeover Surgery

Conveniently located to serve Pittsburgh, Bridgeville, and Mt Lebanon

A mommy makeover in Bridgeville can help address the physical changes that often occur after childbirth. At Radiance Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lori Cherup offers personalized care to help you restore body contours that feel more balanced for you. This combination approach focuses on areas like the abdomen and breasts to support your goals with minimal downtime.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

At our practice in Bridgeville, mommy makeover surgery is a frequently performed procedure. Pregnancy, especially more than once, can have dramatic effects on a woman’s body, especially the breasts and the abdomen, producing stretch marks, droopy and deflated breasts, loose abdominal skin, and perhaps an abdominal hernia. These problems can only be partially improved with diet and exercise.

Therefore, plastic surgical procedures may be necessary to return a woman’s body to its state before pregnancy or, in some cases, to an even better state. Dr. Cherup is known by her patients for performing the best mommy makeover that Bridgeville has to offer.

Lori L. Cherup, M.D., a mom of three herself, helps women look and feel rejuvenated after giving birth to multiple children. The mommy makeover can help you get back to feeling like you! Schedule your consultation and see the results Dr. Cherup has achieved for other mothers in our galleries!

Who’s a Good Fit for a Mommy Makeover?

You may be a strong candidate if:

  • You’re done having children and breastfeeding
  • You’re at a stable weight and in good health
  • You have stretched abdominal muscles or sagging skin
  • You’re experiencing breast volume loss or deflation
  • You want to address multiple areas in one procedure

“My Expectations Have Far Been Exceeded”

I am a 50-year-old female bariatric patient who lost 80lbs with a BMI of 41.

I became discouraged after my initial weight loss because I looked worse than I did prior in clothes, due to the hanging fat and skin. Literally looked like a 4-6 months pregnant, who would only wear tops that hung over my gut because I was ashamed of how I looked.

I had known Dr. Cherup from a previous surgery she performed on me. As a nurse, I appreciate her direct, honest opinion and my previous results from here were great. She does not try to sell you something you don’t need or want. I trust her to do what is best for me, and I have never been disappointed.

Dr. Cherup performed a large hernia repair and a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removing a pannus, that formed after my previous weight loss. Dr. Cherup was attentive before, during, and after the surgery. She has high expectations of herself, her staff, and the staff at the hospitals she operates. As a patient, I appreciate her attention to detail and felt like she was an advocate acting on my behalf. She is not afraid to connect with her patients and she even repositioned me in my hospital bed. She kept my family updated and treated them with dignity and respect. Also educated my 10-year-old daughter on my surgery and encouraged her to participate in my follow-up care, which she did.

Dr. Cherup cares about her patients and their recovery. After the surgery, she was concerned about my incision and attentively followed my progress through office visits, phone calls, and updates. In the end, I healed well; my results are awesome. And I am so glad I did this for myself. I can wear pretty clothes again.

Dr. Cherup’s staff are respectful and courteous. My sister and I have been going to Radiance for over ten years for facials and other skin treatments. They have always been “down to earth,” easy to work with, and, like Dr. Cherup, care about your results.

I highly recommend Dr. Cherup and Radiance Plastic Surgery.

  • Mommy Makeover Consultation

Dr. Cherup will examine you and measure the dimensions of your breasts, abdomen, and thighs. She probably will employ our VECTRA 3D imaging system to visualize your breasts and simulate an augmentation if that is intended. Your Mommy Makeover Plan may include some of the following procedures:

    • Breast augmentation: Adds volume to breasts that looked deflated after breastfeeding.
    • Breast augmentation with mastopexy (breast lift): Adds volume and perkiness to breasts that sag by fitting the skin envelope to the new breast volume.
    • Breast reduction: Reduces the size of overly large and heavy breasts to a more compact breast package that fits your body proportions.
    • Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck): Removes excess skin and fat in the midsection, and tightens the underlying muscles.
    • Mini tummy tuck: Slightly less invasive and extensive than a full abdominoplasty. It often does not give as good a result, but is indicated for patients with one pregnancy or fewer.
    • Liposuction: Eliminates unusual fatty deposits that have settled around the midsection, thighs, or flanks; improves the contours of the body, so that it is smooth without bumps.
    • Lower body lift: Eliminates excess skin from the abdomen, upper lateral thighs, and the buttocks; usually only needed in patients with extreme weight loss, or very poor skin elasticity.

Breast and body procedures can also be complemented with a facial procedure. Dr. Cherup offers complete facial rejuvenation, ranging from facelift surgery to simple injectable treatments with Botox or dermal fillers. Photofacials and laser skin resurfacing often complete the rejuvenation.

Dr. Cherup’s experience ensures she can offer the best mommy makeover Bridgeville has to offer. Dr. Cherup is exceptionally skilled and extensively trained to provide remarkable results with minimal risks and complications. Although no surgery is risk-free, Dr. Cherup is a board-certified plastic surgeon with 20 years of experience and a history of many satisfied patients.

  • Procedure Plan

Dr. Cherup has definite opinions about combining procedures. Generally, the more procedures combined, the higher the risk of complications. Patients with medical problems, clotting disorders, only average pain tolerance, and many responsibilities with a minimum of “off-time” available should have procedures performed separately.

For example, a breast procedure rarely requires more than a few days off work. While the patient heals, she can lose a few more pounds and improve her health. Then, a few weeks to months later, a tummy tuck and liposuction can be performed.

Breast and body contouring procedures can be combined for a longer surgery safely for those patients who have a low BMI, are young (under 40), who have a few weeks to recuperate, and who have a high pain tolerance.

Rest assured, Dr. Cherup will recommend a safe and surgically sound plan for you that will meet your needs and ensure an excellent surgical outcome.

  • Recovery and Potential Complications

Please go to Dr. Cherup’s blog on this website and read the articles titled “exercise and driving after breast augmentation” and “swelling after a tummy tuck abdominoplasty.” If you have combined procedures, you will need someone to take care of you for a week; you will be driving in two weeks and probably back to work in three weeks.

Recovery from a mommy makeover usually requires about 10-14 days of downtime, depending on the combination of procedures performed. Mild to moderate discomfort, swelling, and bruising are common during the first week and can be managed with prescribed pain medication and compression garments. Walking is encouraged early to support circulation, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for four to six weeks.

Most patients begin to see visible improvements after about six weeks, though final results may take three to six months as swelling fully resolves. Scars will continue to fade gradually over the following year. To help your body heal properly, following Dr. Cherup’s aftercare instructions and attending all scheduled follow-up visits is important.

Most patients underestimate the time it will take for them to feel normal. Remember, your body did not change into its “not happy state” overnight. The repair will take a month to heal, and then you will feel full of energy and delight at your new image.

  • Unusual Complications

Infection can occur uncommonly in breasts, slightly more commonly in abdominoplasties, and rarely in liposuctions. Your diligence in providing correct wound care is important. Dr. Cherup will diagnose any infection and treat it thoroughly.

One of these rare complications is a request for an explanation of implants. In the past twenty years, Dr. Cherup has had only two patients request implant explantation after an augmentation that she performs. Both patients cited pain with exercise and discomfort with the size of their breasts. Dr. Cherup is NOT an OVER-AUGMENTER, as many plastic surgeons are. Dr. Cherup will expertly guide you to a size and shape implant that will yield beautiful results.

Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are very unusual complications. Symptoms of tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), shortness of breath, and calf pain need to be reported to Dr. Cherup immediately. Deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism must be treated quickly and thoroughly in a hospital setting.

Dr. Cherup has had three or four patients develop these problems in the past twenty years, which usually occur with longer surgeries. We take all precautions to prevent these problems during the surgery, such as adequate hydration, sequential compression boots on your legs, elevating the legs during the surgery, and getting the patient up to ambulate within hours after recovery. However, this complication can occur in some patients who tend to clot quickly.

Dr. Cherup has never had a fatality due to these complications because she has always diagnosed these problems quickly when they occurred. Rest assured, Dr. Cherup will thoroughly evaluate your medical status before she recommends any surgical plan to correct your body contours.
