Mini Tummy Tuck

Conveniently located to serve Bridgeville and Mt Lebanon

Are you dieting and exercising but still can’t get rid of stubborn fat deposits on your stomach? Stubborn fat can be very difficult to get rid of naturally and often causes people to feel insecure about their bodies. The abdominal area of the body is one of the most common places for fat to accumulate. Dr. Lori Cherup of Bridgeville, PA recommends a tummy tuck procedure to eliminate stubborn fatty deposits in the abdominal area. In cases where a patient has a smaller amount of excess fat in the abdominal area, they might be a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck

Mini Tummy Tuck

What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

The mini tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to address smaller deposits of excess stubborn fat in the abdominal region. Unlike a traditional tummy tuck, the mini tummy tuck makes use of a short-scar incision to address the problematic area. This makes it a less invasive surgical technique than the traditional method, but it can still provide amazing results.

How To Prepare For Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure

Prior to your procedure, you will be instructed to avoid smoking, consuming alcohol, and certain medications for about a week before the surgery. Dr. Cherup will provide you with more in-depth instructions during your consultation.

The Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure

During the procedure, Dr. Cherup will tighten the abdominal muscles, remove loose skin, and get rid of stubborn fat. Once the necessary corrections are made, she will then pull the remaining skin tightly around the reformed abdominal contours and close the incisions.

What to Expect After the Mini Tummy Tuck

Even though a mini tummy tuck is not as extensive as a traditional tummy tuck, we still advise that you take some time off to rest and recover from the surgery. Recovery may take about two weeks. During this time, you should take some time off work and avoid performing strenuous physical activities. You will experience some discomfort, bruising, and swelling after the procedure, but these symptoms are temporary and will subside. We’ll also provide you will medication to help manage the discomfort as you heal.

Mini-Tummy Tucks are useful only in nulliparous (no pregnancies) or 1-pregnancy patients. I also use them on men when I am doing a ventral hernia repair and a minimal skin resection is possible. Patients that have a low-lying umbilicus – at their waist or lower- are not candidates, for, in the end, the position of their umbilicus would be aesthetically too low, and unnatural.

In a Mini-Tummy Tuck, the lower skin flap is undermined up to the umbilicus. The surgeon then must choose whether to ignore the upper abdomen, treat it with liposuction, or undermine the skin and repair the muscles. This, of course, depends on what is “wrong”. The umbilicus can be “floated”- detached from the muscle of the abdominal wall and keep attached to the skin flap. This maneuver allows further upward dissection and treatment. After that work is done, the skin is re-draped and 4-6 centimeters of lower abdominal skin is resected and closed. I always use drains in every TT, even though I also always use plication sutures to anchor the deep fat to the abdominal wall. The sutures cut down on the JP drain amounts, and shorten the healing time.

Mini-Tummy Tucks are NOT indicated in the repair of 2+ pregnancies patients, weight-loss patients, or panniculectomies. I am always unimpressed by my Mini-TT, and often wish I had “talked the patient into” a full abdominoplasty, where the results are always “WOW!”. I charge only 10% less for a Mini- TTs, because there is more decision-making in the process, and patients are sometimes less than thrilled, and then I have to deal with a less-than-satisfied patient.

How Much Does this Surgery Cost?

The overall cost of a Mini Tummy Tuck is affected by anesthesia fees, hospital fees, post-surgery garments, and medications. Price is also impacted by medical tests, surgeon’s fees, and the exact techniques employed.
