What is Microneedling and Why Do I Need It?

At Radiance Skin Care Clinic, we’ve seen every type of facial concern around. Wrinkles, sun damaged skin, acne scarring. You name it and we’ve seen it. We are always looking for new technology and new treatments to bring to our Pittsburgh-based practice. We fell in love with microneedling and the results we have seen!

What Does Microneedling Do?

The microneedling pen’s needles produce micropunctures in skin. This helps your skin absorb skin care products more easily. It also helps increase your collagen production, helping to minimize fine lines and acne scarring.

There are three phases to the wound-repair process1:

  • Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.
  • Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
  • Phase III: Remodeling. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

Microneedling is clinically proven to give our patients the results they expect from Radiance Skin Care Clinic. We couldn’t be more excited about the results we’ve seen in our patients. Dr. Cherup has had microneedling done on her forehead and is thrilled with the results!

Does Microneedling Hurt?

When done by a trained professional, like Susan Mowry, there should be minimal pain or discomfort. Susan uses a special cream that helps ensure your comfort throughout the short procedure. There can be some pin prick bleeding and your skin will be pink for a few days. Our microneedling patients find that makeup easily hides any redness so there is no downtime.

What Kind of Results from Microneedling Can I Expect?

Radiance Skin Care partnered with SkinPen by Bellus Medical because they were the first microneedling tool to be cleared by the FDA. SkinPen is clinically proven to be safe and effective.  Best of all, SkinPen works. 90% of subjects in the SkinPen clinical trial recommend the procedure to family and friends2.

Is Microneedling Right for You?

Microneedling is a gentle treatment suitable for people looking to achieve healthy and radiant skin without undergoing a more invasive or aggressive procedure. It can be a good option if you haven’t seen success in reducing wrinkles or scars with other types of treatment.
