  • Photo Facials: How does it work?

Specialized pulses target brown spots, sun damage and vessels without harming the skin. The light delivered to your skin causes them to slowly disappear through your body’s natural healing process.

The revitilazation process uses pulsed light to treat the following problems:

Pigmented lesions (sun or age spots) occur in response to sun-induced skin injury and appear as dark brown circles known as solar lentigines. There can also be diffuse browning of the skin, known as actinic bronzing.

Vascular lesions are superficial blue, red, or purple veins under the skin’s surface. Some common types include rosacea (facial inflammation) and spider veins (tiny vessels that appear near the surface of the face).

  • Am I a Good Candidate for a Photo Facial?

The most suitable candidates for photo facials are people with sun-damaged skin, age spots, facial redness, melasma, red blood vessels, and facial redness. Other good candidates include those with shallow acne scars, large pores, fine lines, acne discoloration, facial veins, and broken capillaries.

However, photo facials are not ideal for people with tanned skin or severe skin problems. People who use retinoid creams or acne treatments like Accutane are not good candidates for this treatment option. Additionally, the procedure is not recommended for those who are pregnant, are very dark-skinned, or have severe scarring or keloids.

  • The Photo Facial Consultation

Be prepared to discuss your concerns, goals, and expectations during your consultation with Dr. Lori Cherup. She will check your face, chest, neck, and hands for sun damage, pigment irregularities, and vascular issues.

Dr. Cherup will explain the photo facial treatment, its benefits, and potential complications. She will then develop a personalized treatment program for your skin.

  • The Photo Facials Procedure

A gel will be applied to the skin during the photo facial session, and the patient will wear eye protection. The handheld photo facial device will be placed on the skin, and pulses of intense light will be emitted.

The heat from these pulses will break down the brown and red pigments, which the body will then filter out naturally over time. It will also stimulate collagen growth and healing.

  • Photo Facials Aftercare

The redness and sensation experienced after a photo facial is comparable to that of a sunburn. Relieve that feeling with a cool washcloth or ice pack. You may have bruising for one to two days. Treated brown spots may grow darker temporarily, but they will peel off in a few weeks. Avoid makeup, and remember to use sunscreen and moisturizing lotion.

  • How Much Do Photo Facials Cost?

The total cost of photo facials depends on how many sessions you need in order to achieve your desired results. You can ask more about the price during your consultation.
